REDEFINING LUCK; THE MINDSET SHIFT THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING

Do you think you are a lucky person?

Do you have “the luck of the Irish?” 🍀

For the longest time I used to think (and say) that I’m not lucky.  I mean, when there was a raffle or a drawing, my name was never the one selected out of the hat.  I felt I was unlucky in games and various circumstances, and would find myself saying “some people get all the luck,” when frequently feeling defeated.

Others have agreed with me, identifying people they know who always seem to win at things.  Good to know I’m not the only one that would see this! 🧐

But what constitutes luck?  According to Merriam-Webster the definition of luck is: a force that brings good fortune or adversity; the events or circumstances that operate for or against an individual; favoring chance.  I must admit, at times I believe the universe is either for me or against me. 🙋🏼‍♀️

However, what I’ve come to know is that in the context of luck, mindset is key.

WHAT’S MINDSET HAVE TO DO WITH IT?

While luck plays a role in everyone's lives to some extent, mindset shapes how individuals interpret and respond to it. What we think. What we feel. What we focus on and the meaning we attach to it is what gives it substance.

When luck is perceived as scarce, individuals may believe only a few fortunate individuals receive it. They may become risk-averse and hesitant to seize opportunities, and see themselves as victims of fate. They might also be more prone to envy and resentment towards those they perceive as luckier. I’ve been there, done that, and it really doesn’t feel good! 🙅🏻‍♀️

What if we believe that we create our own luck?  That luck is made, not always a chance.  What if our “luck” was truly the result of our persistence, perseverance, courage, and hard work to seize opportunities and push through adversity?

If you think and believe you are lucky, then what you tell yourself will grow.  But if you see yourself as unlucky, then guess what, you will be!  It’s all in your mindset, your ingrained thought patterns and beliefs!

THE POWER OF AN ABUNDANCE MINDSET

An abundance mindset is characterized by a belief that there are plenty of opportunities and resources available for everyone. People with an abundance mindset focus on possibilities, growth, and gratitude for what they have.

In the context of luck, those with an abundance mindset tend to view luck as something that can be cultivated or created through hard work, resilience, and a positive attitude. They believe that luck isn’t limited to a select few but is accessible to anyone who is prepared and open to it.

With an abundance mindset, individuals are more likely to recognize and capitalize on opportunities. They view setbacks as temporary and see challenges as opportunities for growth and learning.

Rather than feeling envious of others' success, individuals with an abundance mindset are more inclined to celebrate and learn from them, believing that there is enough success to go around.

With abundant thinking we think big and embrace taking risks. We take ownership and lean into change, believing we are enough.

8 STRATEGIES FOR SHIFTING YOUR MINDSET
Shifting from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset involves consciously changing your perspective and cultivating certain habits and practices. Here are some ways to make this shift:

  1. Practice Gratitude: Regularly acknowledge and appreciate the resources, opportunities, and relationships you already have in your life. Keeping a gratitude journal or simply taking a few moments each day to reflect on what you're thankful for can help reinforce feelings of abundance.

  2. Focus on Abundance: Train your mind to focus on abundance rather than scarcity. Whenever you catch yourself thinking in terms of lack or limitation, consciously reframe the situation to identify the abundance present. For example, instead of thinking, "I don't have enough money," think, "I have enough to meet my basic needs, and there are opportunities for me to earn more."

  3. Visualize Success: Use visualization techniques to imagine yourself achieving your goals and living a life of abundance. Visualizing success can help rewire your brain to focus on possibilities rather than limitations, making it easier to adopt an abundance mindset.

  4. Challenge Limiting Beliefs: Identify and challenge any limiting beliefs you have about yourself or your circumstances. Ask yourself whether these beliefs are based on facts or assumptions, and look for evidence that contradicts them. Replace negative beliefs with affirmations that support an abundance mindset.

  5. Celebrate Others' Success: Instead of feeling envious or resentful toward others' success, celebrate it. Recognize that their success doesn’t diminish your own potential for success, and use their achievements as inspiration and motivation for your own goals.

  6. Take Risks: Embrace opportunities for growth and take calculated risks, even if they involve stepping outside your comfort zone. Recognize that failure isn’t permanent and can be a valuable learning experience on the path to success.

  7. Surround Yourself with Positivity: Surround yourself with people who have an abundance mindset and avoid negative influences that reinforce scarcity thinking. Seek out mentors, role models, and supportive communities that encourage growth and positivity.

  8. Practice Generosity: Cultivate a mindset of abundance by giving freely of your time, resources, and expertise. Generosity can create a sense of abundance by reinforcing the belief that there is enough to go around and that giving enriches both the giver and the recipient.

By consistently practicing these strategies, you can gradually shift your mindset from scarcity to abundance, allowing you to approach life with optimism, resilience, and a sense of limitless possibilities.

SEEK ABUNDANCE AND THE LUCK WILL FOLLOW

The relationship between luck and mindset is intertwined with how we perceive and respond to the abundance or scarcity of opportunities and resources in our lives. If this speaks to you, then perhaps it’s time to get serious about shifting your mindset to seek more abundance in your life.

It can be as simple as starting with a daily mindful belief/affirmation such as: “I have abundance in my life” and watch how you recognize positive things in your life.  Daily positive affirmations can counteract your negative thinking and rewire your brain, shifting from a scarcity to an abundant mindset.

Those with a scarcity mindset may overlook opportunities or sabotage their own chances of success due to a belief that luck is rare or out of their control.

Conversely, individuals with an abundance mindset are more likely to attract positive opportunities and make the most of them through proactive and optimistic behavior.
